Gamestop announced that their retail stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. The company believes it’s “doing the right thing to disrupt the emerging trend in the retail industry of taking away holidays from customers and associates.”
Gamestop Technology Brands retail stores will also be closed. They include Spring Mobile, Simply Mac, Cricket Wireless, and ThinkGeek.
Gamestop will be open on Black Friday November 27th at 5am local time and will offer “bigger and better Black Friday deals than we have ever offered before.” The retailer will also offer events during the week of Thanksgiving to accommodate for the closure on Thursday.
“We believe strongly that our customers and associates should have the opportunity to spend the Thanksgiving holiday relaxing with family and friends, and not worrying with the stress of where to find the best shopping deals,” Executive Vice President and President of U.S. Stores, Mike Buskey said, “We know this is in stark contrast to what many other retailers are doing, but we are taking a stance to protect family time during this important holiday.”
For those shoppers who still need to get their fix, Gamestop.com and ThinkGeek.com will still be taking orders on Thanksgiving Day. Hopefully this will signal a change in the retail industry to allow employees and customers the chance to enjoy time with family instead of rushing out to get the latest deal.
