Goosebumps: The Game is releasing on October 13 according to a new blogpost over on Playstation Blog.
The point-and-click adventure game from WayForward features a similar plot to the Sony Pictures Entertainment Film starring Jack Black that releases on October 16.
“The film’s plot, which our game leads into, centers around the monsters being released from their books and terrorizing the town.” says WayForward Director, Tom Hulett in the blogpost.
However, he was also very clear that the title would not simply be a rehash of everything fans will see in the movie. “We really tried to make the game feel like its own standalone story, rather than just a retread of the film — this way Goosebumps fans can enjoy both of them individually.”
While every monster was listed and considered, the game will feature over 20 of the series’ most popular monsters taken directly from the RL Stine books and short stories which ran from 1992 to 1997. Hulett went on to explain that the game is not “merely Goosebumps-flavored, or brand-adjacent,” but rather “Brand accuracy and fanservice” were things that he always puts at the center of the game. “I couldn’t sleep if the game felt like anything less than an authentic Goosebumps product with all the hallmarks that entails,” he added.
Goosebumps: The Game will be available on PC, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 starting on October 13.
