Batman: Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X have both sold 5 million copies worldwide according to the article. Lego: Jurassic World isn’t far behind, selling over 4 million copies.
Mortal Kombat X released in April 2015, with Batman: Arkham Knight not far behind, releasing in June. Arkham Knight was pulled from stores for PC, however, as the game was unplayable by most. The issue has yet to be fixed, with Warner Brothers expecting the game to be purchasable for the PC again in October.
Mortal Kombat X did find its most successful launch for the franchise to date, however. The fighting game has little competition in North America, with Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, and Mortal Kombat being some of the most popular 1v1 fighting games.
According to Wall Street Journal, video games make up 20% of the market share for Warner Brothers. As popularity in their games continue to rise, it’ll be interesting to see if they continue to pour money into movies, or eventually shift over to the more interactive medium of video games all together.
