Rovio cuts jobs once again
Finnish studio Rovio Entertainment, developer, publisher, and distributor of the massively popular Angry Birds franchise, recently confirmed a restructuring plan within the company that accounts for 213 job cuts across its offices located around the globe. Restructuring to better concentrate on the three business areas of games, media, and consumer products, Rovio's most recent cuts affect individuals from all departments within the company save those members in the United States and Canada currently working on the Angry Birds movie which is set to release May 20, 2016. For individuals affected by the company's restructuring process, Rovio states it will "actively provide career support for those made redundant as a result of the reorganization." This is not the first time the company has cut jobs. In October 2014, the company laid off Finnish employees as well reflecting the challenges faced by the mobile gaming giant within the span of a year. Despite these layoffs, Rovio successfully launched Angry Birds 2 earlier this year with 30 million downloads of the most recent title occurring within the game's first two weeks on the market.
