Sony might consider releasing a “high performance” version of the PlayStation 4. The system is already being hailed as the most powerful console on the market at the moment according to vice president, Masayasu Ito.
Ito’s comments were published on the Japanese publication 4Gamer, translated by DualShockers. In the interview he made reference to the PS4 using X86 architecture, unlike the PS3s Cell processor. This means that improvements can be made, over time, to the performance of the system.
He did stress that Sony had no immediate plans to introduce this higher performance model, and made is clearer that the bigger questions was if Sony wanted to even try this.
Improving the performance of a console by releasing a higher powered version of it could make some PlayStation users agitated, something Sony wouldn’t like given the current sales momentum in the PS4’s favour.
