Sony: "Never say never" to a new Wipeout
When next generation consoles come around, a lot of developers tend to drop older IP in favor of newer IP that may provide new challenges and take advantage of the upgraded hardware better, which seemed to be the case of the Wipeout series. However, according to Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony's worldwide studios, a new Wipeout may not be that far away.In an interview during EGX in London, Yoshida was asked whether the series developed by the now defunct Studio Liverpool would ever see the light of day. However, according to Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s worldwide studios, a new Wipeout may not be that far away.
In an interview during EGX in London, Yoshida was asked whether the series developed by the now defunct Studio Liverpool would ever see the light of day. His response was a simple, “Never say never.”
“There are many IPs that we kind of stopped iterating with new games,” he continued. “One of the reasons is we always love to work on new IP.”
“From my standpoint I try to balance the number of games in a franchise. In the future there might be a chance to come back to a game like Wipeout,” he said.
Yoshida also hinted at what Sony Bend, the studio behind Syphon Filter was up to:“Sony Bend exists. They are making some awesome cool game that we have not announced. I’m not allowed to say.”
We will be waiting with baited breath.
