Here's how you can avoid Rise of the Tomb Raider's game breaking bug
Rise of the Tomb Raider is quite the adventure, with over-the-top animations and tremendous explorable valleys and ravines. It's for this reason that a small bug in the last hour of the game's campaign that's enough to ruin your entire play through hurts that much more (minor spoilers may follow). In Rise of the Tomb Raider's final chapter, as Lara climbs a large tower while exploring The Lost City, she jumps and swings her grapple hook to reach the top. Shortly after, in a small cutscene, an enemy grabs onto Lara's foot and attempts to pull her down. In reaction, she pulls out her pistol to shoot the enemy and control returns to the player. However, if you ascend the tower without any ammunition in her pistol, the gun will not shoot and the game doesn't give the player any other option. Reloading to the last checkpoint brings Lara right back to the same point.

To avoid the bug, be sure Lara’s pistol has at least one bullet of ammunition before climbing the tower. If you reach this point without having done so, the only solution so far is to return to the main menu, go to load your current save, and press both the left and right triggers to some point in a previous save – meaning you could potentially need to repeat a large section of Rise of the Tomb Raider.
