A full length feature movie based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher book series is set to arrive in 2017, and is being produced by the team behind The Mummy.
The aforementioned production company are The Sean Daniel Company, who will collaborate with Polish company Platige Films, the latter of which was responsible for the fantastic “Trail” cinematic trailer that was released for The Witcher 3, as well as cinematics for Halo 5: Guardians.
In a press release last week, The Sean Daniel Company stated that while the film will follow series protagonist Geralt of Rivia, the movie won’t be based around a single game or book in the series. The film will instead follow the themes of The Witcher and Lesser Evil from Sapkowski’s The Last Wish collection, and is expected to be the first in a number of films.
Tomasz Baginski (The Cathedral, 2002) has been tapped to direct the film, with Hollywood veteran Thania St. John of Grimm, Chicago Fire and Buffy the Vampire Slayer set to write the script. It also appears CD Projekt Red, developers of the beloved Witcher games, will have no involvement in the project.
