The Xbox One Elite is releasing today alongside the Xbox One Elite Controller, both of which have substantial improvements compared to the base models.

The Xbox One Elite uses a SSHD 1TB drive, which allows for 500GB more then the original Xbox One, and will boot up 20% faster. SSHD is known as a Solid State Hybrid Drive, and as Microsoft puts it, “stores frequently accessed files on a solid state partition and optimizes system performance so you can get to the action up to 20 percent faster from energy-saving mode,”

An SSHD drive over an SSD drive for the console is a decision made based on the compatibility needs with traditional HDD modules. The SSHD combines the faster loading of the SSD with the HDD compatibility, and will provide for a much more solid console overall.
