Others being considered for the young space smuggler include Chandler Riggs from The Walking Dead, Rami Malek from Mr. Robot, and Jurassic World’s Nick Robinson. An agent was quoted saying, “This has to be the easiest movie to audition for. They are seeing everyone.” The Star Wars franchise has a history of including new faces in the cast and the director has made statements indicating this, so it’s likely the new Solo won’t be well known.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller have co-director positions on the film, who have previously seen success with The Lego Movie and the Jump Street series. Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon are onboard as writers. Kasdan confirmed this will be his final Star Wars film talking to a German newspaper Bild: “I did four Star Wars movies. That’s more than enough.”
The Han Solo film is scheduled for May 2018. The first spin-off film, Gareth Edward’s Rogue One, is set to release December 16, 2016.
