Sony Japan has announced that Bloodborne’s servers have been taken down for “emergency maintenance.” The title will remain playable offline, but the online modes will be unavailable for “a few days.” The company stated: “We are currently conducting emergency maintenance on the game servers. The maintenance should be complete within a few days. We will update you again once the maintenance ends.”
No other details were given. Kotaku does report, however, that the “emergency maintenance” may be related to an exploit that potentially gives players the ability to unlock the game’s DLC expansion, The Old Hunters, for free. Lead hosting engineer Tim Wernicke stated on Reddit that serious issues have been identified, which is why Sony decided to take down the game’s servers.
Wernicke stated: “We’ve received some really important feedback about an exploit and serious issues that exist in the game. The game is currently undergoing emergency maintenance, and we’re working non-stop to get some things patched and back online. So a huge thank-you to everyone here for the feedback, and please be patient while we work to get things restored.”
Bloodborne is available on the PlayStation 4. The game’s first expansion, The Old Hunters, released last week.
