In case you have been busy today, Nintendo’s final Nintendo Direct dedicated to Super Smash Bros. finished streaming today. Among its announcements, some great, some okay, there was the promise of some of that content being available very soon.
In this case, that content is the surprise addition of Final Fantasy VII’s own Cloud Strife. Roughly four hours after the Direct, hosted by Smash Bros’ director Masahiro Sakurai, an update for both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game went live, owners of the latter officially need over 2,200 blocks of memory incidentally, and Cloud became available for purchase. Much like how Street Fighter’s Ryu came bundled with his own stage, Suzaku Castle, Cloud is bundled with his own Final Fantasy themed stage, the Shinra controlled city of Midgar. It’s because of this that Cloud costs a little more than the other fighters with a price tag of $5.99 for 3DS or Wii versions, and $6.99 to get him for both versions at once. Also included was some Chocobo themed Mii Fighter costumes, if you’re into that stuff.
Only recently becoming familiar with Cloud Strife and the hyped Final Fantasy VII, I have to say as a Smash character, the buster sword wielding soldier is pretty fun. He’s not as combo heavy as I like, but the way his limit break can enhance his special attacks gives him more of a strategic edge than I initially thought.
