When asked in an interview with GameSpot, Double Fine founder Tim Schafer said this of Psychonauts 2’s 3.3 million target – “Double Fine wants to match that amount and put our own money into it, too. Then we want to get a partner like a real major games industry partner to help us with that, and be another chunk of that funding”. In total, Schafer is aiming to have a total budget of at least $10 million.
The funding campaign is being conducted via investment platform Fig, a site which takes crowd-funding a step further than sites like IndieGoGo or Kickstarter. By placing money into a campaign, investors will also receive a financial stake in the game – including a share of potential profits. The catch to Fig’s business model – Double Fine will only get the money if they reach their 3.3 million dollar target. However, with well over a month left to find the remaining $1.2 million, hopes are high for the campaign to succeed.
The funding campaign will last until January 7th, check it out here to contribute.
