Splatoon developers not looking to change map rotation or create 3DS edition
Splatoon’s co-director Yusuke Amano has spoken in an interview with Gameinformer that Nintendo have no plans to expand the already restricted map rotation and also have no intention of developing Splatoon for the 3DS anytime soon.Regarding a 3DS version of the third-person squid shooter, Anamo said “with the splattering of ink, which is definitely key to the game, this is something we spent a lot of time on getting the feel and look exactly how we wanted…I think its something that would be quite difficult to realize on the 3DS considering its limitations.”

Splatoon, which recently won the category of Best Shooter at this year’s Video Game Awards, has received praise from critics and players alike since its worldwide release date in May 2015. It has since sold 2.42 million copies as of September this year and been described as “refreshing” to the sometimes stale and monotonous third-person shooter genre.

It is something that we consistently continue to see users discussing. It’s perhaps something we will start to think about as a challenge, and we would need to think of the best ways to solve that challenge, but we don’t have any immediate plans to take that on.”
