A study by the Pew Research Center was released earlier this week, showing that women play video games just as much as men do. The study found that around 50% of men play video games and that around 48% of all women play video games. The study was collected from over 2000 individuals this past summer. However, while study found that its near equal for men and woman to play video games, it found that it’s twice as likely for men to identify as a gamer.
The study found that around 15% of men associate themselves with the term gamer. However, only 6% of women consider themselves to be gamers. The study also found that 33% of men between the ages of 18 and 29 identified themselves as a gamer. Only 9% of women identified themselves in the same age range though.
It was also found that among adults, 26% of them believe that video games are a waste of time. On the flipside of that though, only 24% stated that they did not believe that video games are a waste of time. The study also found that nearly half of adult Americans involved in the study played some sort of video game, whether it be computer, console or smartphone based games.
