Starting with Assassin’s Creed II in 2009, Ubisoft has released a new full sized Assassin’s Creed every year, but this year might be a little different.
Kotaku is reporting that Ubisoft will delay the next major Assassin’s Creed release until 2017. They also report that the game will be set in Egypt and the game’s development code-name is “Empire.”
Kotaku also said that moving forward Ubisoft might move to a two year development cycle for the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This might be a good thing for the publisher as Ubisoft even admitted that Syndicate’s first-week of sales were affected by Unity’s troubled launch.
When Game Informer asked Ubisoft about a comment on the story, the publisher replied, “We can’t comment on rumor or speculation. We’re always happy when players are excited about our games, past, present and future. In the meantime, we hope that the latest images from the Assassin’s Creed movie set will keep fans of the franchise happy and eager to find out more!”
2016 won’t be completely absent of the franchise as Assassin’s Creed Chronicles, the 2D side-scroller, will release the final two installments in early 2016. India will be released on January 12th and Russia will be released on February 9th. The Assassin’s Creed movie will also appear in late 2016 as the film starring Michael Fassbender is scheduled to be released on December 21st.
