Although not much has been shared about the game since then, an announcement video for Japan has just been released. Releasing on February 3rd, Detective Pikachu is known as Meitantei Pikachu: Shin Konbi Tanjou in Japan.
The game will be released for the 3DS and surrounds a Pikachu that talks in a very human voice, that’s eerily deep for the electric mouse. Reportedly, there is a blue Pikachu that will be joining the game. The blue Pikachu can be controlled via motion capture and facial recognition.
The trailer for Detective Pikachu is a little odd, and judging by the reaction, not everyone is sold on it. The new Pikachu is 3D modelled and looks pretty CGI, compared to the cute 2D Pikachu we are used to seeing in the Pokémon games.
