EA boss estimates combined 55 million PS4/Xbox One console sales
Given Microsoft’s stated reluctance to share exact console sales numbers, it’s been left to educated estimation just how well the Xbox One, and therefore current gen consoles overall, are selling. In a recent earnings briefing (via Gamespot) EA CFO Blake Jorgensen offered one such estimation.“The console purchases are up through the end of calendar year '15," Jorgensen said. "Our estimate is 55 million units out there which has exceeded virtually everyone's forecast for the year and is now almost 50 percent higher than previous console cycle so, all of that is very, very positive.”

This number would make sense given what we know. Sony announced they closed out the year with almost 36 million PS4s sold. And the most recent estimate for Xbox Ones, deduced from Windows 10 user numbers, sat around 18 million, just one million short of Jorgensen’s claim.
Earlier, an earnings report from Microsoft revealed that, while hardware sales were down over last year due in part to the lower price tag for the Xbox One, gaming revenue was up almost $200 million.
