Early Oculus Rift backers will receive a free consumer version
It has been a long road for Oculus Rift, its first Kickstarter launching all the way back in 2012, and the Oculus team has decided to reward those that have support the VR headset from the beginning.On the eve of the consumer version opening for pre-order, the team behind it has announced those that supported the first Kickstarter campaign at the dev kit level ($300) or above, will receive a free consumer version. Though those early backers have already been given everything promised by the Kickstarter campaign, Oculus is including the free unit simply as a sign of gratitude. Those that qualify will receive a survey via Kickstarter before February 1.

While there is still no set price point for the Oculus Rift, pre-orders are scheduled to open at 8am PST tomorrow, January 6th. All pre-orders, along with the free units going to early backers, will ship with the space combat sim EVE: Valkyrie and the adorable character platformer Lucky’s Tale.
