HBO is reportedly in talks to expand Game of Thrones into a seventh and eighth season.
Programming president for HBO Michael Lombardo revealed at the recent Television Critics Association tour that a deal is close to being completed to extend the show two more years past the upcoming sixth season.
Last summer, Lombardo declared hopes for the show to be extended to an eighth season according to GameSpot.
“[Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] are feeling there’s probably two more years after Season 6, that’s what we’re looking at right now,” Lombardo said at the time. “We hope that they would change their mind, but that’s how they are feeling now.”
The sixth season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere April 24th on HBO. Unfortunately, George R. R Martin’s next book in the series will not be out ahead of it.
