The long awaited online component for Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain released on Steam earlier today but has already been shut down due to a possible exploit.
Konami community manager, Robert Peeler, has said that the online service was pulled due to a ‘possible exploit’. Once this exploit is addressed, the Beta will again return to Steam.
“Due to a possible exploit, we’ve removed access to the Beta temporarily while a hotfix is being prepared. Once the issue is addressed we’ll provide access to the Beta once again.” – Peeler wrote on the Steam Forums (via Kotaku).
According to reports, the exploit allowed players to purchase MB coins without charge. For Konami, this presents a massive problem with their introduction of micro-transactions – which, if you don’t want to purchase you can win through daily bonuses and accrue them.
