Rachet and Clank dev Insomniac teases what’s next
The renowned developer behind the Spyro, Rachet and Clank, Resistance, and even Sunset Overdrive, Insomniac Games released a teaser hinting at what might be next for the team.Less than a minute long, the teaser doesn’t show much. First, its clear the teaser is entirely underwater, the camera moving down past seaweed and fish swimming in the background. Right from the beginning we can see submerged. Since they are crumbled it is safe to assume they were not built under water but were flooded instead. The deeper the camera moves though, the more gears and machinery we see. Eventually, there is even a shot of machinery within the rocks themselves, mixed in with even more crumbled buildings, but also large, impressive, overgrown statues of faces.

Once the camera reaches the bottom however, we also see chains and ship anchors that look to be hanging below the buildings and statues we saw. Then, below them, we even have what looks to be ship wreckage.
Most interesting of all however is that the art style and perspective don’t seem to fit Insomniac’s traditionally 3D games. The style appears 2D, reminiscent of Ubisoft’s Child of Light and Valiant Hearts, two games created by a AAA game developer, but with the sensibilities and goal of creating an indie-game-like experience.
Sunset Overdive, the developer’s latest title, came out in October of 2014, and currently we already know Insomniac has at least two games in development. The PS4 Rachet and Clank game was shown off extensively at PSX this past December, while Edge of Nowhere, a third-person action VR game was announced back in June. From the look of it, its unlikely the teaser is connected to either game, let alone one of the studio’s other properties.
The teaser ends with the words “Dive Deeper” and the promise of more to come tomorrow, January 28th at 8:30 CT. Check back here on Gamespresso for all the details. Until then, what are your theories? Let us know in the comments.
