And it’s still breaking more. With a record breaking New Year’s Day, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken the US Box Office by storm. Passing by both Jurassic World ($652.3 million) and Titanic ($658.7 million), Star Wars is catching up quickly to Avatar.
Avatar is currently holding the record for US Box Office at $760.5 million, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens is sitting only $20 million behind at $740.3 million. Easily the biggest cinematic release in decades, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to catch up – and break – Avatar’s record, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Worldwide, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is sitting at #6. Only 17 days into its release, it wouldn’t be too far fetched to say this will overtake Avatar, that rests at $2.7 billion. (At the time of writing, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is sitting at $1.5 billion)
