While concrete details have yet to be revealed about EA DICE’s newest upcoming game Battlefield 5, there is a rumor inducing leak that has made its way around the internet.
According to a Swiss online store, known as World of Games, the new Battlefield is described as “Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg”, which simply means ” a multiplayer tactical shooter in World War I.” While this is a not an official declaration of the game’s setting, the retail store also said the game would be released on October 26 of this year. Coincidentally, this is very close to when Battlefield 4 was released, off by only a few days.
Even EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson said that the game will be a “new Battlefield experience,” and the past Battlefields have taken place in a modern combat setting. Ironically, a Great War setting would be new.
This wouldn’t be the first time a minuscule rumor about an upcoming game has gotten the fans riled up. Just earlier this month, a game called “Dead Island: Retro Revenge” received a Mature rating on the Australian Classification Board, when fans of the franchise didn’t have much information about any Dead Island sequels. So we may, in fact, have a very very retro Battlefield game for the holidays.
