Frozen Synapse, release back in May of 2011, is a turn-based tactic game developed by Mode7 Games. It is available for the PC, iOS, OSX, Linus, and Android. It was also later ported for PlayStation 3 and the Vita. The player assumes the role of a tactical commander in a dystopian cyberpunk universe. The goal is to properly guide your militia of rebels in order to overthrow the antagonist: A corporate government.
Now, Frozen Synapse 2 has been announced to be in development. This will be the third installment of this game series, following Frozen Cortex. There isn’t a lot of information on the development of Frozen Synapse 2. What we do know is that it will feature “open-world tactics.” This may indicate an entirely different form of gameplay in comparison to its previous titles.
The game’s composer will be none other than the co-founder of Mode7 Games, Paul Kilduff-Taylor. He is known as “nervous_testpilot” on Soundcloud. Taylor expressed through his official Twitter, “We’ve been working on this for quite a long time – it’s nice to be able to start talking about it.”
Originally, Frozen Synapse received praise for adding an innovative twist to its turn-based system. It also included multiple modes: Multiplayer, single-player, and “skirmish” mode.
We’ll have to see if its sequel can out-innovate it.
Frozen Synapse 2 is set to release sometime this year.
