Introduced back in Halo 3 ODST, Firefight has been absent since 343 Industries took over the Halo franchise. The team is set to change that with Halo 5 though.
While detailing the new additions to the game in the recent free Hammer Storm DLC pack, 343 Industries revealed players can look forward to Halo 5’s very own take on the co-op horde mode, Firefight. Called “Warzone Firefight” it “will bring PvE to Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer and let players battle together against common foes (and truly show off their custom Spartans to boot!)”
For any that don’t know, Firefight was an early step in the modern trend of wave-based game modes, similar to Gears of War’s Horde Mode, where a team of players must stand their ground against increasingly hard waves of enemies. Things are kept interesting as weapons and vehicles drop throughout the match. Considering the “Warzone” moniker added to Halo 5’s take, it’s not hard to imagine how big the game might take the old fan favorite mode.
While the post didn’t say anything beyond that the mode was in the works, more information was promised for the coming months.
Hammer Storm added new maps and even new game modes, like Grifball, to Halo 5.
