Last week news broke that the previously Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break will be making its way day-and-date to PC. It has since been revealed however this does not mean a Steam release.
Speaking in a Major Nelson podcast, spotted by Gamerplanet, Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg explained the PC version will be coming exclusively to Windows Store.
In August of last year Kevin Unangst, senior director for PC gaming in the Xbox group, spoke with PC Gamer about the Windows Store potentially competing with Steam. “We are not intending to compete with Steam… If anything, we want Steam to be even more successful—they’ve done great things for PC gamers in terms of having a single store.
“Over time do we want more developers to come over to our store and offer it in addition to Steam? Absolutely. Is competition good for people? Absolutely.”
While some gamers have drawn attention to the less than honest business practices of holding off an announcement of a PC version of Quantum Break until just before release, many are overjoyed. Not only will achievements and saves be shared between Xbox One and PC, but the game will also be cross-buy, much like the connection between PS4, PS3, and PS Vita.
Quantum Break comes to PC and Xbox One on April 5th. What do you think of the game being Windows Store exclusive? Let us know in the comments.
