League of Legends’ Dominion mode will be no more on February 22nd, 2015.
The game mode was launched more then four years ago, and added an alternative to Summoner’s Rift. The map Summoner’s Rift is the traditional setup for a MOBA game, with 3 lanes.
According to a Blog post by Riot Games, “Fewer than 0.5% of players actively play Dominion and we’re aware some number of even that small population is still bots.” The decision to shut down Dominion was a lack of resources and community surrounding the mode.
Riot Games says that after years of learning they know that modes like Dominion are better as short term cycles for an alternative play, rather then a standalone queue.
Those that have stuck with Dominion and won over 100 games will have access to an exclusive, never to be reproduced portrait. It should be arriving in the next two weeks.
