Rise of the Tomb Raider walked away as the big winner at the 2016 Writers Guild awards.
The title won Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing, edging out other nominees, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Pillars of Eternity and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
The award was accepted by lead narrative designer John Stafford, lead writer Rhianna Pratchett, narrative designer Cameron Suey, and additional writer Philip Gelatt.
Rise of the Tomb Raider launched exclusively on Xbox platforms in November 2015, prior to coming to PC just last month. It landed a spot on our list of favorite games from 2015, where in our review we said, “Lara’s latest adventure in Rise of the Tomb Raider is a beautiful step-up from 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot. Improving upon its predecessor in almost every way, Rise of the Tomb Raider opens in its first 10 minutes with magnificent scope and pulse-pounding scenery that only grow bigger over its 20-hour campaign. Developer Crystal Dynamics presents a magnificent story and immersive gameplay, despite not always putting the game’s best parts at the forefront. It takes what was already a great game and makes it stronger, bigger and better.”
