For anyone that has been curious about Star Citizen, the massive crowdfunded space simulator, this week is your chance to try it out. Cloud Imperium Games announced over the weekend this week, the current Alpha build will be free for anyone that would like to try it.
“On the fence about Star Citizen? Why not give it a try and see what we’re building!” the developer posted on the game’s website.
Anyone can set up an account here and get started. Called “Free Fly” the free trail will include access to the Star Citizen Alpha, Arena Commander, and the Social Module. The Alpha features “multiple space stations and environments, scripted missions, places to explore and more, Alpha 2.1.2 is your first look at a much larger universe!” Arena Commander “is a ‘game within a game’ that we’ve used to develop our flight mechanics and ship combat balance. Take on human opponents or an AI swarm in single seat fighter.” And the Social Module allows you to “interact with other players while you explore our first landing zone, ArcCorp! The Social Module is intended as a starting point for our world building.”
Star Citizen started its first crowdfunding campaign back in October 2012. Though it is expected to release this year, there is still no official release date. Will you be trying out the free trail? Let us know in the comments.
