Microsoft has announced that the company is opening Xbox Live to be playable across platforms, including PC and other consoles, such as PS4.
Through a post on the Xbox Wire, it was announced that Xbox One will now allow cross-platform play on multiplayer titles on PC and Windows 10, as well as other console and PC networks.
“Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players,” the post says. “We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.”
It was confirmed by Psyonix that players using Rocket League on Xbox One will be able to play with users on PC.
Ultimately it will be up to companies like Sony if they will also allow PS4 players to play cross-platform with users on Xbox One.
