Square Enix recently held a special event for their upcoming title, Final Fantasy XV. During the event, Square Enix announced plans to expand the universe of Final Fantasy XV through an anime and stand-alone CG movie.

First up is Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV, a five-episode OVA anime series produced by A-1 Pictures. The series gives a deeper look at the bond between Noctis and his three friends, as they come together before the events of the game. Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV will be released as five 10-minute episodes. The anime will be available to stream for free on YouTube, as well as potentially other unnamed services. At the moment, Square Enix is unsure if they will release Brotherhood in some sort of physical form.

Game director Hajime Tabata explained that Final Fantasy XV breaks the tradition of other JRPGs where players experience the coming together of the characters that will end up saving the world together. Instead, players will be introduced to them after they have already come together. Thus, Brotherhood will give fans that sense of “coming together.”

Also announced was a full-length CG movie entitled Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, which is being directed by Takeshi Nozue. This film will shift the focus from Noctis to his father, King Regis. Tabata explained that he wanted to dig deeper into the story of a father and his son, and the relationship that exists there. Kingsglaive will be a separate part of the Final Fantasy XV experience, something that you will not need to watch in order to enjoy the game, but something that will help fans make a deeper connection with it.

Final Fantasy XV will release on September 30th. The game will release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
