Destiny’s April Update is fixing Taken King’s infusion problem
With the upcoming release of the April Update, Bungie looks to be fixing one of the biggest problems that’s plagued Destiny since the launch of The Taken King last fall. Revealing the change in a livestream on Bungie’s Twitch, it seems that, come April 12, infusing will no longer be nearly as much of a headache. As part of Destiny: The Taken King, Bungie introduced a system called infusion, allowing players to dismantle higher level gear to bolster up lower level gear. In this way, a gun with 300-damage could be dismantled, boosting a gun of 200-damage up to roughly 280. For most cases, the level fluctuates between 70-80%. In every one of those case though, players were left with an almost exclusively disheartening math problem while trying to upgrade their gear.

The infusion system was so confusing at times, it even led to the rise of unofficial Infusion Calculator sites.
All of this will soon be nothing more than a memory however. Going forward infusions will boost gear 100% of the way to the dismantled gear’s level. In the case of that 200-damage gun, infusing a 300-damage gun will present players with nothing less than exactly that: a shiny, new 300-damage gun.
The change to the system comes as Destiny also introduces cosmetic gear. Dropping as level 3 gear (while the new max level is being bumped up to 335) the cosmetic items definitely look cool, but are useless in a fight. Infusing top-tier gear into each piece however, will result, instantly, in top-tier gear with that very look.
