A fan remake of Metal Gear Solid gets shut down

It's with deep regret that the fan-made remake for Metal Gear Solid has been confirmed cancelled by The Shadow Moses Project team on Facebook. The game was revealed in 2015 with a trailer released earlier this year. Since then, a teaser was released stating something big was coming in March. Unfortunately, a cease and desist letter was not this planned announcement.According to the team's Facebook, the project was cancelled due to 'reasons beyond our control'. The game was revealed in 2015 with a trailer released earlier this year. Since then, a teaser was released stating something big was coming in March. Unfortunately, a cease and desist letter was not this planned announcement.

According to the team’s Facebook, the project was cancelled due to ‘reasons beyond our control’. This was announced today after 2 months since the release of the trailer video. The video’s description also mentions the reason why the team decided to be open and public about the game:

We just need to clarify something:
Konami owns the MGS copyright and therefore sooner or later
we will need their full permission.
We have therefore chosen to openly share this project from the beginning so that we can deal with any issues that may arise as they come.
We believe this is better than putting years of work into a project only
to get it shut down.
Please, respect this decision.
Thanks for your attention,
Airam.

Sadly this and many other fan-made projects meet similar fates, this one stung due to how amazing the reimagining looked. While it’s common sense that a project like this would benefit more from staying underground and not being publicly mentioned until it’s complete release, it’s commendable that the team stayed respectful to the original copyright owners.
