Final Fantasy XV has to sell 10 million copies to be a success
There is a lot of pressure on Square Enix. It was revealed that Final Fantasy XV has to sell 10 million copies in order to be considered a success. The number was revealed by the game's director, Hajime Tabata, during a press conference after last night's Final Fantasy XV event. The game has been in development for 10 years, and will have an accompanying CG movie and anime, so the cost for the title has probably added up. This might be a challenge, as Kotaku noted that no Final Fantasy has sold that many copies except Final Fantasy VII. Not even The Witcher 3 or Metal Gear Solid 5 have sold that many copies to date.
