A recent Twitter post by Geoff Keighley has announced that Valve is making a VR experience set in a “pocket universe of Aperture Laboratories.”
The VR experience will be called “The Lab,” and while not much is known about the title now, more is planned on being revealed during GDC 2016, which runs from March 14th to the 18th.
The Lab will attempt to show off the partnership of Valve and HTC’s Vive headset. Valve also noted that the game will be available on Steam to Vive owners sometime this spring for free.
While it’s not the Portal sequel we were looking for, the idea seems pretty nifty. This isn’t the first time Valve has done this, either. At last year’s GDC, Valve created a VR experience set in the Portal universe called Aperture Robot Repair, which showed off the Vive’s whole-room tracking technology. Part of that program is used in Valve’s Steam VR Performance Test, which tests if you’re computer can handle running VR programs.
