The latest in the Sonic series has officially, finally, gotten a release date. Announcing the date during SEGA’s SXSW 2016 panel, the game will land on store shelves this fall, Sep. 27, exclusively for the 3DS.
In development at Sanzaru Games, the studio behind Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, the next entry in the action platformer series was originally meant to be released last year.
The game will release roughly a month after Sonic’s 25th Anniversary Party, being held by SEGA, at this year’s Comic-Con on July 22nd. “Celebrate 25 years of Sonic the Hedgehog at our official party at the House of Blues, during San Diego Comic-con!” the invitation reads. “Join us as we celebrate the past, and give you the exclusive first look at the future of Sonic!”
As for how Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice plays into that future, we will just have to wait and see. As we learn more about the 3DS title, you’ll find it all right here on Gamespresso. Until then, will you be picking up the latest game in the series, or has this particular hedgehog run his way straight out of your heart? Let us know in the comments.
