Street Fighter V is getting its first new character, Alex
A fan favorite, Alex is making his triumphant return to Street Fighter as the first new character added to Street Fighter V. Though Alex and the large update hitting the game in his wake still don’t have a release date, Capcom has detailed just what fans can expect from the character when he finally does land in the game.“Alex has been one of the most fan requested characters for Street Fighter V,” Cacom explained, “and we’ve put in a lot of work to make him appeal to old school and new players alike. Having made his first appearance in Street Fighter III back in 1997, Alex is a brash grappler whose bold attitude tends to get him in trouble. His parents died while he was still young, so he was raised by his father’s friend, Tom, who taught him everything he knows about fighting.”
A fan favorite, Alex is making his triumphant return to Street Fighter as the first new character added to Street Fighter V. Though Alex and the large update hitting the game in his wake still don’t have a release date, Capcom has detailed just what fans can expect from the character when he finally does land in the game.
“Alex has been one of the most fan requested characters for Street Fighter V,” Cacom explained, “and we’ve put in a lot of work to make him appeal to old school and new players alike. Having made his first appearance in Street Fighter III back in 1997, Alex is a brash grappler whose bold attitude tends to get him in trouble. His parents died while he was still young, so he was raised by his father’s friend, Tom, who taught him everything he knows about fighting.”
Continuing, “Alex returns as a powerful grappler that can inflict big damage with his close range Power Bomb command grab and his long limbs to fight from midrange distances. The threat doesn’t end there however, as Alex has a variety of special attacks that can cover a large portion of the screen for those times when the opponent keeps him out. Players looking for a methodical grappler who can do big burst damage up close, yet still do well at midrange, will find themselves perfectly at home with Alex.”
His V-Skill, Overhaul, sees Alex stretch and get ready, making his very next attack count as a hard hit and damage his opponent as if it were a counter attack.
Meanwhile, with his V-Trigger, “Alex channels his wrestling training and gains access to a brand new clothesline attack. This attack can be charged and during that time, it can parry an attack. Upon full charge, if Alex makes contact with a blocking opponent, he will break their guard, leaving them open to an immediate attack.”
Capcom then also detailed his Critical Art, Heavy Hammer, in which he chops at his opponent, grabs them, and jumps into the air, only to then jet back to the ground, slamming them headfirst.
Alex is only the first of a promised multitude of characters making their way to Street Fighter V. Along with a new game mode, tutorials, and numerous fixes and tweaks, the game’s upcoming update will also add an in-game store for Alex and the future characters, where they will be available for real-world currency or simply for the in-game currency Fight Money. So far, Capcom has only said to look for the update later this month.
