After copies of Uncharted 4 surfaced in the hands of fans in the UK, Sony has made a statement explaining just what happened. Apparently, though it was first thought to simply be retailers selling the games early, a shipment of Uncharted 4 copies was stolen in transit.

While it may seem like a strange joke, given the title of the game being A Thief’s End, it sadly isn’t. There is an open criminal investigation into the theft and Sony says they are working with the police.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog, President of SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida responds to the theft with a warning to fans. “We know that very many of you have been looking forward with great anticipation and excitement to the latest masterpiece from Naughty Dog. From what I have played of Nathan Drake’s latest adventure, I can tell you that it is very much worth the wait.

“As with most Naughty Dog games, the unfolding story is such an integral part of the experience and for this reason we wanted to warn you to beware of the potential for spoilers to be posted by people with access to stolen copies of the game.”

Continuing, he adds, “An extremely talented team has worked long and hard to bring Nathan Drake’s greatest adventure to life and we would urge you to help us prevent this from being spoiled by not purchasing copies of the game ahead of the launch date.”

It was recently revealed the game will see the return of Plunder Mode in its multiplayer, while the game’s director hinted that the ending might spark a few arguments amongst fans. Uncharted 4, the final game for Naughty Dog’s Nathan Drake, is set to release May 10.
