VLC Media Player is joining the Universal Windows Platform(UWP) project, and allowing users to experience the media player across all windows themed devices.
The devices included in UWP is Windows phones running both 8.1 and 10, the Microsoft Hololens, Xbox One, and personal computers currently running 8.1 and 10.
Although VLC Media Player is already on the windows store for Windows 8.1 and 10, many other products will start getting support in May.
Xbox One’s release date is expected to be this summer, when Microsoft starts allowing developers participating in the UWP to publish on Xbox One. “We’ve been working on Xbox One for a long time, even considered a Windows 8 app last year, but we couldn’t because of the lack of proper APIs. The work on the Xbox One UWP port started in February, and it’s been a pleasure to follow the SDK updates.”
