Cliff Bleszinski has had a long relationship with video games. Even before he became a famous name for players everywhere, he was a developer in his teens. Cliff released his first game, a point and click adventure, at 17. Over two decades later, he may be close to calling it a career.
The creator of Unreal Tournament and Gears of War is not the same Cliffy B that he once was. Now he is a married man who isn’t getting any younger. Cliff Bleszinsksi told Gamespot that he has at least one or two more games in him, but that is dependent on the decision of him and his wife having kids. “I’m pumping the brakes on that as long as I can because as much as I love kids…they’re a lot of work,” he stated.
Bleszinski went on to add, “I’m having too much fun [to retire]. I love pitching a weapon or a character and then seeing a sketch for it two days later. I want to see cosplayers with this game, I want to see tattoos, I want couples coming up to me telling me they met and fell in love online playing this game. That’s what gets me out of bed in the morning.”
He truly is one of the most unique and talented designers of the past twenty years. As much as it would hurt to see him go, he has given the world many great titles and deserves to be a father if he so wishes.
