The rumored upgrade console for the Xbox one is rumored to reportedly be four times more powerful than Microsoft’s current version of the console.
The upgrade, codename ‘Xbox Scorpio,’ was initially reported by Kotaku, who states that power is the main reason behind the upgrade. The current Xbox One runs at 1.32 teraflops, while Scorpio would allegedly run at 6 teraflops.
For comparison sakes, the current Playstation 4 runs at 1.84 teraflops, while the heavily-rumored PlayStation Neo upgrade will reportedly run at 4.14 teraflops. If all of these numbers are true, the Xbox One could become the more powerful system in the current generation’s console war.
While many believe the Playstation Neo will be revealed and released in 2016, Scorpio may not see the light of day until 2017. However, it is rumored that Microsoft will release a new iteration of the Xbox One this year that will be “40 percent smaller than the current model.”
If rumors are to be believed, Microsoft may announce the console at this year’s E3 in June with plans to release it is as soon as August.
