Criterion’s extreme sports game is no more
While it was only announced two years ago that the Burnout developers Criterion were developing an extreme sports game, it turns out that the concept has been axed.“While they’ve moved on from the previous project they’ve spoken about and aren’t pursuing it, they are continuing to build new ideas and experiment with new IP for EA, in addition to continuing to collaborate with other EA studios,” an EA representative told GameSpot.
While it was only announced two years ago that the Burnout developers Criterion were developing an extreme sports game, it turns out that the concept has been axed.
“While they’ve moved on from the previous project they’ve spoken about and aren’t pursuing it, they are continuing to build new ideas and experiment with new IP for EA, in addition to continuing to collaborate with other EA studios,” an EA representative told GameSpot.
The game was going to include everything from jumpsuits to helicopters to ATV’s. Not many details other than that were really disseminated, and with the project cut, it looks like we’ll never know what the full game would look like.
Criterion has now been moved to new tasks by EA. Their first task has been to help with the number of Star Wars games being developed by EA currently. The next game being made is called Star War Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission. The game will be an exclusive to the PlayStation VR system. As well, anyone that owns Star Wars Battlefront will be given the X-Wing VR Mission for free.
“Criterion is also working on EA’s Star Wars Battlefront VR experience, and contributing to other games from EA, for example the speeder bikes in Star Wars Battlefront,” the statement reads.
Maybe once this Star Wars craze ends, Criterion can get to making some of their own great concepts on their own.
