From Bend Studios, the developer responsible for Syphon Filter, Gone Home is a new zombie apocalypse game that seems to combine the artistic aesthetic of The Last of Us with the massive hordes of Dead Rising.
“Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the ‘safe’ wilderness encampments,” Bend explains in a post on the PlayStation Blog.
“The game takes place two years after a global pandemic has killed almost everyone, but transformed millions of others into what survivors call Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving.”
Bend showed off a massive gameplay demo during the conference, featuring a massive number of freakers running after Deacon. While the demo starts off with him trying to be stealthy, using a part from a car as a silencer, the action soon picks up and Deacon has to run for his life, mowing down as many as he can. This involves using exploding barrels, Molotov cocktails, and even destructible pieces of the environment.
