Gran Turismo Sport is the next instalment of PlayStation’s long-running stalwart racing franchise, but fans of the series will be no doubt disappointed to learn that the new game will not feature a dynamic weather system like previous games. However, there is a silver lining with the reasoning for this.
In an interview with GTPlanet, series produce Kazunori Yamauchi stated that “We opted not to have the transitions in the race this time in order to raise the framerate and the quality of the image during the race. So the user will be able to set that before they enter the race. So you’ll still be able to have night races, morning, races at dawn, dusk, and so on.”
Apparently this feature had to be sacrificed in order to make other elements of the game such as performance more stable. With rumours of improved versions of current-gen consoles abound, its hard not to wonder if Polyphony Digital should have waited until the next upgrade of the PlayStation console before getting their game on the shelves.
Either way, Gran Turismo Sport will represent the series’ first outing on the PlayStation 4, so fingers crossed it can do enough to revolutionize the IP for a while. We’ll have more Gran Turismo Sport updates as and when they arrive.
