A large portion of the gaming audience is intrigued or excited by the choice of a World War 1 setting for the upcoming Battlefield 1 title, but publisher EA was initially concerned that some of their audience may not even know that such a war existed.
Blake Jorgensen, EA’s Chief Financial Officer, explained that the reason the company initially rejected the idea of World War 1 for a Battlefield title was that younger players may not have the appreciation for the time period.
“World War I, we were worried that many of the younger consumers out there didn’t know that there was a World War II or Vietnam, so World War I…” he said.
It was revealed a few weeks ago that EA did in fact initially reject the idea for World War 1 for a Battlefield title.
“When the team presented the idea to me of World War I, I absolutely rejected it. I said World War I, it’s trench warfare; it can’t be fun to play,” Patrick Söderlund, the executive vice president of EA Studios, said during EA’s annual Investor Day briefing.
Battlefield releases on PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 21st.
