Inside is out tomorrow on the Xbox One. The follow up to Playdead’s first critically-acclaimed success, Limbo, has been subject of rave reviews over recent hours. The game has performed so well with critics that it has actually found itself as the highest rated Xbox One console exclusive of all time with a 92-rating on review aggregator Metecritic.
The game sits in third in Xbox One’s overall, multi-platform leaderboard, sitting just behind Grand Theft Auto V and Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain. It’s incredible to think that an indie dev has reached such heights, managing to top games like Overwatch and The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. It’s testament to the quality of Playdead’s atmospheric platformers.
What’s also interesting is that the game that Inside overtakes as Xbox One’s highest rated exclusive game is also a side-scrolling indie game in Ori and the Blind Forest which is followed by Forza Motorsport 6.
Limbo did eventually end up on PlayStation 4 and a host of other platforms, so fingers are crossed for PlayStation gamers like me that the exclusivity won’t last too long. We’ll let you know if anything changes on that front with Inside. Regardless, we want to wish our congratulations to Playdead for doing so well with very little resources, perhaps pioneering the essence of creating successful indie games.
