God of War on PlayStation 4 is going to be strictly a single player game.
In an interview with Levelup, the game’s director Cory Barlog confirmed that Kratos’ latest adventure will leave multiplayer behind. The last title, God of War: Ascension, did contain a multiplayer mode when it was released in 2013.
Barlog also added that the new God of War title coming to PS4 will not be Kratos’ last, assuring fans of the series that more games are possible in the future.
Additionally, despite heavy speculation, Barlog stated that players will only be in control of Kratos throughout the game and not his son that was shown off during the gameplay shown last week at Sony’s E3 press conference. He noted that the young boy should not hinder combat, though it sounds like you will be able to issue orders to Kratos’ son to have him perform tasks.
God of War is set to debut sometime for PlayStation 4 after its reveal last week, which proved that the team at Sony Santa Monica studios is working to shake up the franchise.
“I knew I didn’t want to simply reboot the franchise, starting over with a retelling of the origin story, said Barlog. “I wanted to reimagine the gameplay, give players a fresh perspective and a new tactile experience while delving deeper into the emotional journey of Kratos to explore the compelling drama that unfolds when an immortal demigod makes a decision to change. “
