Nintendo’s NX may use cartridges instead of discs
A trademark filed for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hints at the fact that Nintendo's upcoming NX may use cartridges instead of discs. The listing, spotted by NeoGAF user Atheerios, shows that Breath of the Wild will release on both "video game discs" and "video game cartridges." Atheerios points out that the trademarks for several Wii U releases mention "video game discs," and not cartridges. Atheerios then points to games released on the Nintendo 3DS, which the NX's new cartridges will reportedly resemble, which do list "video game cartridges" under the trademark.

Nintendo has not commented on whether the NX will use either cartridges or discs, but Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé did state recently that the company will release more information about the console as we near its March 2017 release.
GameStop CEO Paul Raines has also spoken out about the upcoming system, and did confirm that the NX will have physical games, stating that it “will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned businesses will also play a role.” However, he did not comment on whether or not the games will be on disc or cartridge.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will release early next year, along with the NX.
