Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said Nintendo’s focus is on software rather than hardware capability. During an interview with Bloomberg West, Fills-Aime was asked how the NX will stack up against Sony and Microsoft’s upcoming console iterations (PlayStation 4 NEO and Xbox One Scorpio).
“For us, it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system,” he responded. “For us, it’s about the content.”
“We’re focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future,” Fils-Aime continued. “…whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean.”
Ruling out hardware capabilities on par with the its competitors is not necessarily confirmed for the NX. Rather, a more accurate interpretation, from what was said, is the belief that NX will not need to rely on its power to succeed.
At this year’s E3, Nintendo decided that their booth would be solely focused on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. So far, the positive reactions to the game have been “more than we could have ever imagined,” said Fils-Aime.
Fils-Aime also shared Nintendo’s stance on the VR market during the interview.
The Nintendo NX is planned to release in March of 2017.
